What LaneFerry is, and what it is not
LaneFerry helps people compare options for a vehicle-shipping route. We collect contact details and shipment details, then share that request with licensed, insured carriers and brokers so they can contact you about your lane.
LaneFerry does not transport vehicles. We do not dispatch trucks, assign drivers, negotiate shipping contracts on your behalf, or take responsibility for pickup, transit, delivery, storage, damage claims, or payment terms.
LaneFerry is a free matching service, not a motor carrier, auto-transport broker, or freight company, and does not move vehicles, broker shipments, or hold FMCSA broker authority. We connect customers with licensed, insured carriers and brokers. The information here is general and educational and is not legal, customs, or insurance advice. Costs and transit times are estimated ranges that vary by route, vehicle, season, and timing — they are not quotes or guarantees. Always confirm the price, pickup window, insurance coverage, and the carrier's USDOT/MC number directly with the carrier or broker, in writing, before you book.
Information on this site is general, not a quote or guarantee
The content on this site is for general education. It is meant to help you understand how a route, lane, vehicle type, season, and timing can affect shipping choices.
Any prices, transit times, pickup windows, or service descriptions shown on this site, in guides, or in matching messages are estimated ranges only. They are not binding quotes, fixed offers, promises of availability, or guarantees of delivery by a certain date.
Actual pricing and timing depend on the route, the size and condition of the vehicle, whether you choose open transport or enclosed auto transport, whether the shipment is door-to-door or terminal, current market demand, weather, road conditions, and carrier availability.
What happens when you submit your request
When you use LaneFerry, you may provide contact details and shipment details such as your name, phone number, email address, pickup city or ZIP, delivery city or ZIP, vehicle year, make, model, condition, and your preferred timing.
We use that information to match your route with licensed carriers and brokers that may serve that lane. Those companies may contact you by phone, text, or email about your request.
By submitting a request, you understand that multiple companies may respond. LaneFerry does not control how quickly they reply, what price range they offer, whether they accept your route, or whether you choose to book with any of them.
We only need contact and shipment details to make a match. Do not send financial account numbers, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers unless a carrier directly requires them later for booking, or payment details through LaneFerry.
Your responsibility before you book
You are the decision-maker. Compare the companies that contact you, ask questions about the route, and confirm the key terms in writing before you agree to anything.
Before booking, verify the company's USDOT/MC number and active insurance yourself. Confirm the full price, any deposit or cancellation terms, the pickup window, estimated transit time, delivery conditions, and whether the shipment is door-to-door or terminal.
You should also ask who will actually handle the shipment, what coverage applies during transit, and what paperwork will be used at pickup and delivery. For a practical checklist, see how to vet a car-shipping company and how car shipping works.
If anything is unclear, do not book until the company explains it in writing.
No legal, customs, insurance, or regulatory advice
LaneFerry does not give legal advice, customs advice, tax advice, immigration advice, or insurance advice. This matters especially for new arrivals to the US, military relocations, college moves, inherited vehicles, financed cars, and other situations where extra paperwork may apply.
We can provide general educational information about common shipping steps, but we cannot tell you what documents are required for your exact situation or what insurance coverage is enough for your vehicle. Those questions should be confirmed directly with the carrier, broker, lienholder, insurer, or other qualified source.
Rules can change by state, route, vehicle type, and company policy. Always confirm requirements directly with the company you choose.
No endorsement, ranking promise, or guaranteed match
LaneFerry does not guarantee that you will receive a certain number of matches, the lowest rate, the fastest pickup window, or service on a specific date. Some routes are easier and more active than others. Rural lanes, short in-state moves, inoperable vehicles, oversized trucks, and urgent pickups may have fewer options.
If companies are listed, shown, or presented to you after you submit a request, that does not mean LaneFerry recommends one over another or guarantees their performance. Matching may depend on route coverage, timing, vehicle details, and response activity.
You should make your own decision after reviewing credentials, insurance, written terms, and the company's communication quality. If a quote is far below the others, if the company will not provide a USDOT/MC number, if they ask for a large upfront deposit, or if they pressure you to book today, treat that as a warning sign.
Limitation of responsibility for third-party services
Any shipment you book is a separate transaction between you and the carrier or broker you choose. LaneFerry is not a party to that shipping contract and is not responsible for third-party acts, errors, delays, cancellations, schedule changes, storage fees, damage, loss, claims handling, payment disputes, or service failures.
We are also not responsible for interruptions caused by weather, traffic, mechanical issues, dispatch changes, road restrictions, seasonal demand, labor shortages, terminal limits, or events outside any company's control.
If you have a dispute about a booked shipment, you should contact the carrier or broker involved and use the documents and written terms they provided to you at booking, pickup, and delivery.
Changes to this disclaimer and related site guidance
We may update this disclaimer from time to time to reflect changes in our service, site content, or industry practices. The current version on this page is the version that applies when you use the site.
Other pages on this site, including what it costs and prepare your car for shipping, are also general guides only. They help you understand common route decisions and shipment steps, but they do not replace the written terms you receive from the carrier or broker you choose.
If you do not agree with this disclaimer or do not want your contact and shipment details shared for matching, please do not submit a request through LaneFerry.
LaneFerry is free to use and helps you find licensed carriers and brokers for your route, but you must verify the company, the price, the pickup window, and the insurance yourself before you book.
